Shopping Sustainably On Black Friday
Black Friday is synonymous with deals and money off. It’s a time when we can fall into a trap of overconsumption. Buying things we don’t really need or didn't even think about until we saw the offer.
When it comes to fast fashion there is a massive issue, especially around this time of year. Clothing brands slash prices and continue to contribute to the problem that has resulted in the fashion industry accounting for around 10% of global carbon emissions.
However, we also know there are a lot of people that save up and wait to buy essential items or gifts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Here are some of our thoughts on approaching Black Friday and Cyber Monday and making it more sustainable.
1. Firstly, have a think about what you are shopping for before you look at deals. This way you have a set list and aren’t going to buy something simply because it’s on offer.
2. Seek out quality and sustainable items. Look for brands that work hard to make their products from sustainable materials and have a fair supply chain. Good On You have a great ratings system for this.
3. Shop second-hand first. We are biased (we can also back it up with stats) but we believe shopping second-hand is the future. There are plenty of quality items out there in the world already, it is just about making them available.
So, if you’re looking for quality designer and high street clothing, at good prices, with a lower environmental impact AND to help charities with every purchase, then come have a peek at what we have.
