Why we started Haru
The fashion industry accounts for about 10% of global carbon emissions.
Textile production contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined.
It’s a massive issue. But unlike many other issues facing us, we already know the answer to this one.
We simply start to reuse what we already have and think more carefully about how we produce the rest.
The beauty about this is the answer hasn’t been created by big brands in the fashion space.
It wasn’t formulated as a marketing play.
It has been driven by consumers and enabled by new tech.
People of all ages have simply started to buy more second-hand because they know it’s often the best option in terms of price and sustainability. So much so that second-hand is projected to double in the next 5 years, outstripping fast fashion.
We started Haru to feed that change started by shoppers and in turn, by helping charities to sell online, we are able to help those organisations grow their impact.
Within the team we talk a lot about putting the responsibility on us to create something that means people want to shop second-hand and not feel like they have to.
So our focus is on giving people a great choice of quality second-hand goods;
Building solutions and a service that people find easy to use and is responsive to their needs;
And ensuring the items are at a great price.
Here’s to speeding up a change you guys have already started!
